What Are the Biggest 80’s Stars Up to Today?

#36. Steve Guttenberg

We most commonly remember Steve Guttenberg in the successful franchise Police Academy. However, he began his career with the friendly film released in 1982, Diner, directed by Barry Levinson. Other renowned actors in the film included Kevin Bacon, Mickey Rourke, Tim Daily, Paul Reiser, and Daniel Stern. Between 1984 and 1987, Guttenberg was part of the Police academy Franchise. This was before he acted Three Men and a Baby in 1987.

In 2010, he appeared as himself in the series Party Down, in an episode that was titled ‘Steve Guttenberg’s Birthday’. In 2015, he appeared as a guest in the sitcom Community. More recently, Guttenberg is to appear in the much anticipated Sharknado 4: The 4th Awakens.

#37. Jon Cryer

No Small Affair was the beginning of Jon Cryer’s silver screen experience in 1984. He later featured in Pretty in Pink. The decade ended with an appearance in the movie Superman IV: The Quest for Peace and Dudes.

After joining Charlie Sheen in Two and a Half Men in 2003, Cryer stayed on through to 2015. Since the show, Jon Cryer has been rather quiet.

#38. Judd Nelson

Judd Nelson is everyone’s favorite bad boy and is without a doubt one of the biggest 80’s stars! He first rose to huge prominence when he starred in the iconic film The Breakfast Club as everybody’s favorite character John Bender. Afterwards, he would go on to star in St. Elmo’s Fire as Alec Newbury, making him a leading member of the Brat Pack.

After the 80’s, Nelson would continue acting - mostly in television series such as Nikita, CSI, Psych and Two and a Half Men. He’s also released four books to Amazon’s Kindle!

#39. Kirk Cameron

Cameron joined the Growing Pains cat as a teen and the hit show ran from 1985 to 1992. After starring in Listen to Me and Like Father Like Son, Cameron took a break from acting.

Today, he is the co-founder of an evangelical ministry called The Way of the Master. In 2014, he released the movie Saving Christmas and the movie went on to win several Golden Raspberry Awards (for worst picture, worst screenplay and four other similar ‘awards’).

#40. Robert Townsend

In 1987, Robert Townsend presented The Hollywood Shuffle. He wrote, produced as well as directed the film and was the lead role. Eddie Murphy: Raw was also his brainchild. He starred alongside Denzel Washington in 1989 in The Mighty Quinn.

Later on, he would create and be the star in The Parenthood series from 1995-1999. He has been an active producer and director in Television series Diary of a Single Mom and Los American. He starred in Next to Normal, and Playing for Love in 2013 as Coach Banks.
