Rodney Agatupu Anoa’i is best known by his ring name Yokozuna. Even though he portrays a Japanese character that is a sumo wrestling champion, Anoa’i was actually of Samoan American descent. While wrestling in the WWF, he became the WWF World Heavyweight Champion two times, as well the WWF Tag Team Champion twice, alongside wrestler Owen Hart. He also won the 1993 Royal Rumble. Yokozuna impressively defeated both Hulk Hogan and Bret Bart in pay-per-view events as a part of Wrestlemania IX.
Yokozuna’s last WWF performance took place at the 1996 Survivor Series. He wanted to wrestle against Vader, though in the end he entered the match illegally and he and all the other remaining wrestlers were disqualified. Once he left the WWF, Yokozuna began wrestling through independent promotions. He had a goal of becoming the world’s heaviest professional wrestler with a goal weight range of between 850 and 900 pounds. He sadly passed away in 2000 due to heart complications while he was on tour in England.
Professional wrestler and color commentator Randy Savage also went by the ring name “Macho Man.”. Having won 29 titles during the 32 year span of his career, is widely considered to be one of the best professional wrestlers in the history of the sport. He won the WWF World Heavyweight Championship twice. He is a four time WCW World Heavyweight Champion and has also won the WWF World Heavyweight Championship two times, giving him an impressive six championship titles total.
Savage married Elizabeth “Miss Elizabeth” Hulette in 1984 and was mainly managed by her for the majority of the time when he wrestled for the WWF and WCW. He and Miss Elizabeth divorced in 1992 and he was later remarried to Barbara Payne, who was his high school sweetheart. Savage had a longtime rivalry/friendship with Hulk Hogan throughout his career. In 2011, Savage suffered from a sudden heart attack while driving and crash his car into a tree. He did not survive the accident.
Andre the Giant, whose real name was Andre Rene Roussimoff, was a French wrestler as well as actor. He began training when he was 17 years old in Paris. When he started to be managed by Frank Valois, Andre began wrestling around the world in countries such as Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Africa. He began wrestling in the WWF in March 1973, defeating Buddy Wolfe in his very first match after being the fan favorite of the match.
