Women of the 70s Then and Now

#126. Lea Thompson

Born in 1961, Lea Katherine Thompson is the iconic star of the Back to the Future trilogy, one of the most memorable film franchises of the 80’s. She also starred in the 1986 film Howard the Duck and the 1993 film The Beverly Hillbillies among many others. One of her other iconic roles was in the 1995-1999 television series Caroline in the City. More recently, Lea has had a slew of television guest star appearances, and has been one of the stars of Switched at Birth since 2011. Today, she lives in Los Angeles with her husband and a number of pets, including dogs, fish, horses, chickens, a cat, tortoise, and parrot! Lea is also the mother of two daughters, and she’s just as beautiful today as she was in her very first appearance!

#127. Carrie Fisher

No matter how old you are, it’s impossible not to recognize Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia from the original Star Wars trilogy. Carrie isn’t just an actress though, and has found success as both a novelist and screenwriter as well. Her work as a script rewriter has saved many a film from bombing at the box office! Other major films she’s remembered for include 1980’s The Blues Brothers and 1989’s When Harry Met Sally. Star Wars is still a major part of her life, now that she’s reprising her role in the new trilogy of films. The actress has also struggled with addictions to cocaine and prescription drugs over the years, and she’s been very open about her experiences. In 2016, she actually won the Annual Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award in Cultural Humanism from Harvard for her outspokenness about addiction! Carrie Fisher passed away in February of 2016 much to the dismay of her friends and family. While she may no longer be present with the world who loves her, she will live on in our hearts and “In a Galaxy Far, Far Away”.

#128. Mia Farrow

The star of 1968’s Rosemary’s Baby, Mia Farrow is an actress known for a wide variety of notable roles. She was nominated for a BAFTA and a Golden Globe for Rosemary’s Baby, and also found success with 1974’s The Great Gatsby and 1978’s Death on the Nile. She still acts today, in films such as 2008’s Be Kind Rewind. She’s appeared in more than 50 films throughout the years, and she’s also done quite a bit of stage acting. In addition to being a talented actress, Mia has a huge heart. She’s known for her extensive work as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, and she participates in a number of humanitarian projects in Darfur, Chad, and the Central African Republic. Mia has been divorced two times, but she’s the mother of fourteen children, ten of whom are adopted!

#129. Barbara Hershey

Born in Hollywood, Barbara Hershey dreamed of becoming an actress for as long as she can remember. She began working in television in the 1960s, appearing in minor roles in television shows like The Monroes and With Six You Get Eggroll. In 1990, Barbara’s dreams of fame came true when she won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her role in 1990’s A Killing in a Small Town. That’s only one example of stellar acting and success in her career, another example being 1988’s The Last Temptation of Christ. Today, she’s still garnering attention with roles in films such as 2010’s Black Swan and television series such as Once Upon a Time and Damien. When she’s not acting, Barbara’s splits her time between her homes in Los Angeles, Hawaii, New York, and Connecticut.

#130. Anjelica Huston

Born in 1951 to a prima ballerina and an actor/director, Anjelica Huston was exposed to the world of acting from a young age despite spending most of her childhood overseas. However, she was practically fated to become a famous actress! In fact, when she won an Academy Award for 1985’s Prizzi’s Honor, Anjelica became the third generation in her family to receive the honorable award. She also received Golden Globe nominations for her role as Morticia Addams in 1991’s The Addams Family and 1993’s Addams Family Values. More recently, she’s done voice acting for the Disney series of Tinker Bell films, and has guest starred in the Amazon Video series Transparent. Anjelica is also known for her political activism and skill as a film director, and she’s released two tell-all memoirs about the story of her life.
