This is Xenia Ignatyeva. The 17-year old wanted a dramatic selfie, and she got it. Right after this photo was snapped, she lost her balance and fell to her death.

#24. A Mayoral Disaster

William Becker was the mayor of St. Louis from 1941-1943. On August 1, 1943, he participated in a demonstration for a new aircraft. As soon as it took off, its right wing broke, and all ten passengers were killed. This is the group pictured before takeoff.

#25. Hair-Raising

This family photo of two brothers (Michael McQuilken, right, 18 and his brother, Sean, 12) was taken on a camping trip in 1975, in California’s Sequoia National Park. The brothers were both struck by lightning soon after the picture was snapped and fortunately, both survived.
