Due to Tom Selleck being a popular actor, he would often have scheduling conflicts and Magnum P.I dealt with such occasions by focusing a few episodes on some of the secondary characters.
Magnum P.I. was meant to be set in Southern California. It was eventually set in Hawaii because CBS did not want to close the Hawaii Five-O production offices after the show was canceled.
