Have you been blessed with long lashes? Or are you just more of a minimalist who isn’t into layers of mascara? Athletic events, outdoorsy activities, and sweaty, weekend-long music festivals can also come between you and your makeup bag. For all of the above, lash tinting is the way to go.
Lash tinting will make your lashes darker, and therefore fuller. It’s a service performed in a lot of salons (do NOT dye your lashes at home), but some new products are making this easier and safer for all. Cosmetic lash tints aren’t permanent dyes. They last for a few days, tops, and give you dark, defined lashes without any clumping, melting, or smudging.
A smokey eye is the ultimate way to sport undone, party-girl cool. But where to begin? How do you avoid looking like a raccoon? The answer to achieving this iconic look may be in the simple sketching of a hashtag.
Use a soft pencil liner to draw the hashtag at a slight angle on the outer half of your lid. Blend well with a smudging brush. Finally, use a cotton swab with a drop of micellar water or makeup remover to clean up your edges. Strategic, but still looks slept-in.
If you plan on wearing multiple shades of shadow, as well as liner and mascara, consider taking care of it first thing. Shadow fallout and liner mishaps that require makeup remover can leave “holes” in the foundation and concealer you’ve already applied. And if you went really wild on your eyes, there’s no way you’re going to be able to fix it without washing your entire face and starting over.
By doing eyes first, you can conceal any mistakes and control your end result. Looking for really sharp winged liner, or a more flattering upward angle with your shadow? There’s no better way to achieve it than with foundation or concealer, applied after you lay down the messy part.
Did you know that your mascara should be replaced every three months? Tons of people know, and just don’t care! They will use every last drop of that mascara, especially it costs $28 a tube. Can’t say we totally blame them.
The trouble is, mascara can dry out before you’re really finished with it. Even fresh formulas can end up too clumpy. To fix this, use a little saline contact solution. Drip three drops directly inside the tube, close it, and shake it. You mascara should be smoother, less prone to flaking, and last for at least another week.
The ‘90s fashion revival has resurrected brown lipstick. From taupe, to greige, to straight-up dirt, it seems like everyone under 30 is down for brown. On the plus side, this reemergence of this trend has coincided with the popularity of an ‘80s trend – contouring. That makes at least one of the involved products multipurpose.
It’s hard to get brown lips right. If you end up with a fawn or muddy shade that just isn’t flattering, check and see if you can contour with it. Is it a little too light to be a convincing contour? Consider using it as a bronzer; you’d just use a bit less, and blend even more.
